In a move to enhance health awareness among youth, the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control, represented by the Training and Capacity Building Department, and in coordination with Princess Nourah University, hosted 21 students from the Global Health Program at the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba).
This visit was organized on Sunday, July 15, 2024, with the aim of introducing the students to the role of the center in protecting public health and combating diseases and epidemics. The activities included various presentations by representatives of the center’s various departments, including public health emergencies, public health information, public health programs and policies, and training and capacity building. The Health Awareness Department at the Gulf Health Council also added a valuable overview of awareness campaigns and programs. In addition, an interactive activity was organized simulating a chemical spill scenario, where students were divided into groups representing the various departments of the center and the council. This activity contributed greatly to enhancing the students’ understanding of the role of the center, as they produced practical outputs such as risk assessments, statistics, identifying best practices, and plans for awareness campaigns. The students praised the visit, stressing that it was a valuable opportunity to learn about the center’s work up close and gain new experiences in the field of public health. The center’s management stressed the importance of such visits in raising awareness of the importance of public health among young people and encouraging them to participate in this field.
